Play Therapy provides a safe space for children to process their emotions and feelings in an age appropriate, safe & non-judgemental space.
Often children find their emotions to be confusing and overwhelming. Children often have no idea how to express these feelings when they arise. Children simply don’t know why they are feeling this way. A child who is in this state, starts to feel overwhelmed, causing their brain to go into the fight or flight response.
Through Play Therapy treatment a child learns to process emotions and make sense of how they are feeling. Telling stories through play helps to calm big emotions and integrates both brain hemispheres, allowing a child to understand & process experiences.
Play Therapy benefits children who have experienced traumatic events like bullying, grief & loss, divorce/separation, neglect or illness. Play Therapy is also beneficial for children experiencing feelings of anxiety, fear, depression, sadness or frustration.
Play Therapy can be used with most theoretical counselling models, and is a developmentally appropriate form of communication for children, as well as a symbolic form of communication for adults. Synergetic Play Therapy has its roots in various play therapy models and is both non-directive and directive in its application. These models include Child-Centred Play Therapy, Experiential Play Therapy & Gestalt Therapy.
About our play therapy room
A specialised play therapy room is used with children aged between 3 to 12 years. Equipment used in the play therapy room are specially selected, and include toys to help with aggression, regression, independence & mastery.
Our room is set up with the belief that the child has an innate sense to move towards health. Within this play room a child creates an environment in which a natural healing process can function without interference.
